Panasonic NV-G50PX Dead Set
I've had this machine almost forever. After a rather long hiatus (ok >5 years) I plugged it in and alas it makes a short click, without any other signs of life.
I read that the switching power supplies on these have issues with caps drying out. Before I tear into it, has anyone seen this before and is there a simple fix? This machine is a very close cousin to the NV-G300. Any help as always is appreciated. |

Classic symptom of dried out electrolytic caps in the power supply.
Panasonic was the first to use switching supplies in VCRs, starting in the mid '80s, so lots of failed caps. Just replace the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. Shouldn't need to change the big one off the AC line rectifier, but all the rest. Use good quality high-frequency, low-ESR, 105 deg. C rated caps. |
