b&k tube tester model 606 problem

Here is the problem all of a sudden it wont read shorts/gas. The resistors seem to be ok and the what 2 capacitors and it wont indicate anything. The lamp is ok and even if you select the two same numbers like 7 and 7 the lamp should light and it doesn't. Any ideas on what's wrong? The tube inside is the only this I can think of but checked it on a different tester and it reads good emmisions but that's all I can say about the tube. Is there something I overlook. Thank

How did you determine that the bulb is good? Did you try it in another unit?

If R-6 is misadjusted, it will shunt any voltage across the NE-51. It can be adjusted toward 0 ohms, and will negate the lamp in the circuit. If it hasn't been adjusted, look for any debris/tin whisker within the pot.

Do you get the momentary flash when switch C is rotated throught the positions? If not, check the .05uF cap - it discharges momentarily and will cause one element of the neon shorts lamp to flash when switch C is rotated.

It will not flash when c is rotated but it used to. The lamp is good. It only shows a momentary flash if you press the test button. This.05 is it on the meter? The electrolytic was replaced but not the cap on the meter. I only saw two caps inside.

One end of the .05 connects directly to the NE51 Shorts lamp. It's not the cap across the meter terminals - that is a damping capacitor for the meter.

Take a good look at the schematic and compare it to the wiring of the 606 and you'll find the cap easily.

The entire manual is available online for FREE at BAMA and other sites. Schematic and theory of operation are in the manual.
