13" 1988 sr3000 tv

I got this TV a few months ago off of the Internet and some how the set made it in one piece. Well the set is pretty rough as the front panel door is broken off, there is a small crack on the top of the case, the labeling on the volume buttons are almost worn off, and the set very scratch up. The set does still have a pretty good picture for a cheap Gold Star built set. I do believe a capacitor or capacitors might need to be replaced as there is a bar on right side of screen that seem change depending on the content that's on screen.

SR 3000 was a Sears house brand. All I have seen were Sanyos.
Quite good sets for the $$. Your pixs look great.
I dont see the lines in the pix. Here is how to find the cap.

On the CRT socket there are 3 big resistors typ 15 K 2 W.
Where they join a wire runs to the main PCB near the FBT.
The cap is off that. Typically a 4.7 mfd 250 V 'lytic.
Values & circuit can vary.

VERY common problem across all brands so its good to know.

I decided to look inside and I found that awful circuit board glue that had turned black. So I spent a while scrapping and sanding of what I could. That 4.7mfd cap you mentioned had an esr of .5 ohms I would have replaced it with a new one but the highest voltage I have on hand is 200v. Since I didn't have one I decided to put the cap back in as it didn't test bad.

The line is not that easy to see but maybe this picture will so it on the right side of screen. There may not be anything wrong with the set except for horizontal size being to small letting you see things that are ment to be over scanned. Since I have not tracked down a pattern generator yet I'm not going to mess with adjustments as the set also needs the gray scale adjusted. I do have one small question about gray scale. So you adjust the drive or bias/cute off controls.


I like how they put an extra circuit board and transformer just so they could make a soft touch volume control and power instead of simple pot with switch. As this set is none remote

Yep, Sanyo built for Sears back then. I have a Sears Microwave about the same age and its all Sanyo labels inside.
How much did you pay for that roadside find?
If it worked before, it can work again! (An old CE taught me that.)

Line may be from power supply. Try this. Regulator is on the heat sink.
Should be a STR30###. Last 3 digits are the main regulated B+
( EX A 30125 IS 125v ). Measure at the huge white resistor.
One end will be @150 V, the other will match the IC.
BTW this one is a Gold Star.

I checked the caps in power supply and found three that were bad. I didn't check the B+ as I know its hot chassis set and in past I always had a TV the service manual or information inside the set that told me were it was safe to connect ground led so it would not kill my meter.

Use either the tuner or CRT ground strap for ground. This is
all hot chassis set. Others that have jacks have 2 ground points.
Hot ground for the power supply primary & cold side for the set.
Only way to fry a meter is way too much voltage or measuring
voltages in the ohms position.

The voltage looks to be good. One side is 153v and the other is 115v. The IC is STR30115.

How representative are those pics you posted to what you actually see on the screen (TVs don't photograph particularly well with digital cameras) - are some of those lines artifacts of the picture transfer?

I was an ASC for Gold Star during those years and while they were average for reliability, they were fairly unsophisticated design-wise. What you are seeing might be within the scope of what's normal for that TV.

We've all gotten used to perfect "deflection", purity, geometry, focus, etc. of modern digital flat panel displays.

The picture is pretty accurate however I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time as the problem is the vertical is slightly not wide enough so your seeing things that are ment to be over scanned

With shipping about $30 is what I gave for the set. So not terrible in my opinion.

The CRT sets seemed to have all disappeared from the roadside. The last one I saw was an SDTV which I picked up.
I saw one (a Lynytron) at an Illwill (Goodwill) drop off point and the attendant begged me to take it.
I tell these "Got Junk" guys that all that old stuff is worth money on Ebay.

There's 2 curbside BPC CRTs within half a block of me. The garbage men won't take them so they've been there for several weeks I've been thinking about stealing HV leads and some other useful parts that I can use in the pre-solid state sets I actually care about, but I've been sick all week probably with the corona beer virus and I'm not in the mood to chill myself.

Sorry to hear that. But Wisconsin is too far for me to drive in my 94 Ranger pick-em-up.
