Sony KV-1961 Failure

A friend from another forum is having a problem with their Sony KV-1961. Here's a copy and paste from what he said has happened to it.

Quote:
was watching it one night and it just sorta winked off.
no bang, no smoke
and if I poke the power switch, it seems to try to do something, so I just leave it powered off.
Any ideas? I already thought perhaps the flyback has went, or the horizontal output transistor, but I'm not 100% certain on these old Sony's, and I can't find any service schematics on it, let alone what chassis it uses. I did find the SAMs, but it's $22, and don't feel like spending money juuuuuust yet.

I might be thinking of a different Sony but on the horizontal board, look for an open electrolytic. This electrolytic, crudely put, kick starts the horizontal. If it opens, the set just stays dead.
If it is a remote set and no relay click on turn on, look for a power supply electrolytic in the remote stage. These open and the relay either won't stay in or it buzzes softly for a bit then stops.
Is this the "gate switch sony"?
