Anyone around here uses D.-V.H.S.?
Is true that you can't record P.A.L. or N.T.S.C. signal on D.-V.H.S.?

Actually, you can. JVC with the D-Theater feature was the only D-VHS VCR maker that allows you to record off from the air. I recorded more than 50 hours of broadcast from NTSC TV into a JVC HM-HD30000U. I could record it to D-VHS with a D-VHS tape, S-VHS with a S-VHS tape, and, of course, VHS with a VHS tape. What a great machine it was.

Since the NTSC signal is now shut off for United States, you can record D-VHS with a converter box with video input.

The D-VHS VCRs I know of (Panasonic, Mitsubishi, and JVC) all had IEEE1394 ("I-link", or "FireWire") connectors for their digital signal inputs. If you had one of the few HDTV tuners with the matching output connector, you could record HDTV on these VCRs.
