Me too (both needing a 21AXP22 and having TV plans this weekend) - hoping to fire up the recapped CTC-5 minus CRT (see the "I've been blessed" thread) and tune for minimum smoke.

OK... here's a brain teaser...

So, I have this CTC-15 that has the old fly gett'n too hot after 30 to 45 min of play. Too hot to me means that after such time of play I feel it and kinda can't hold my hand to it and clearly the wax would be melt'n down which upsets me terribly. So, I never watch my brand new(Hawkeye excellent rebuild) 21FJP22 original that came with the set new. Kinda depress'n. I am aware of the alignment procedure for the horiz section but have no milliammeters yet. I suspect some little cap or two is out because when I put my B&K crosshatch generator on it and procede with the horiz section alignment using my RCA Senior VoltOhmyst I cannot get proper horiz sizing from side to side. I can't make the squares on both sides all the same size. I have been thinking that if the circuits are functioning good that I should be able to make the squares all the same size and thus get the equivelant of using the milliammeters. Am I wrong or do I likely have ill caps?

Well, I really don't know what else to say except to get a good milliammeter and to carefully check all the caps in the horizontal section. Sounds like the cathode current is too high to me. I would check the resistors too if all else fails.

Old TV's are not cool. In fact they're so uncool that I have to lower my heating system while watching them.

waiting for a degaussing coil to make my CTC-11 pretty again after moving it.

Going to tear apart my Silvertone CTC-12 and get to work on it. Been waiting to get to that blond beauty for awhile now.

Maybe I'll get some supplies and take a stab at this cataract thing on one of my FJs

I'm glad people are posting again, I made this thread as an anything tv goes thread so we don't have to worry about going OT. That's nice once in a while. Lets call it the Early Color Television stimulus package

What are some of your favorite vintage TV sets in your collection? I have nothing to offer as the only tv set I have that is remotely vintage is a Sony Trinitron from 1991.

Some of my favorites are the '65 Zenith combo set 25MC33 chassis, '64 Zenith Space Command {avatar} 25LC20QS chassis, '63 Zenith black metal table top 26KC20 and my recently aquired CTC-5 Wingate.

I think adjusting the horiz efficiency for proper horizontal lineage will get the cathode current right-some service material I've read has hinted at that. But I would want to double check it. Shouldn't be too tough to find a meter? My Radio Shlock digital multimeter will do it, though nowadays I use an old Simpson that a retired Sears repairman gave me. Analog is a lot better than digital here, too.

Going tommorrow to meet with a gentleman who advertised some test equipment in the paper. Should be interesting-not the equipment, but just talking to him. He mentioned being a retired missile designer. Got his start as a kid tinkering with radios.

The election night thread got locked before I could chime in to say that my CTC-15 worked great that night; I used the digital converter and it's starting to grow on me-signal strength is improving, for one. Yours truly is a "political operative" (hold on, I'm not going there!) and while making annoying phone calls to people last week I struck up a conversation with a kindly old man in my town. After a minute or two I figured out he was the guy with all the ham towers in the backyard. Before the conversation was over I had promised to visit him soon-need to do that in the next week. Sounds like a very interesting guy. Can't wait to see his shack. Sounded pretty lonely, his wife has dimensia and he is her caretaker. Guys, make those contacts while you can. I know I'll be glad I visited both of these fellas.

I think my wife bought a factory refurbished Roomba at Big Lots today, one that is marked "battery won't hold charge" and was priced at $49. If she did, guess I'll try rebuilding the battery pack with off-the-shelf nicads. Can get, on the same order, maybe from mouser, some caps to fix up my CTC-5 horizontal problem.

That's about all that's going on here and now. Need to get back to work!

I hope to be watching the Rose Parade on a roundie in January, but I don't think I'd bother watching election returns on one even if I had it functioning -- much of the graphics would be off-screen.
