Ahhh! Dang it Bryan, you're going OT! Just kidding!!! seriously though, great reading, let us know how it goes meeting those guys. They sound quite interesting. You are most definitely right about making contact with these type of guys, unfortunately, many are getting very old and are taking their wonderful stories and experiences with them when they pass. Time can be a cruel thing.

Antique Color TV stimulus package, eh? So this thread comes equipped with a few 5AR4s, a 15GP22 or two, and a bag of fresh can cap's? I'm in!
My favorite TV not in my collection is probably an original Chromacolor (forget the chassis) and also the RCA CTC-22 tabletops. Love the style of those. In my collection, I'd have to say that the portacolor is among my favorites. Not for picture quality but for the fact that it's on its second crt, with all original tubes and still works really well. Of the later sets, the RCA ctc-121's are some of my favorites. |

LOL! nice one! I wish it did come with all that stuff! Especially the 15G! CTC-121s are really good sets, nice cabinet and sound systems too.

I've got my '66 Admiral (purchased from Doug) looking really good now. I've got a couple of late 40 RCA's in storage that maybe I'll get out this weekend. I can't remember if they work. I originally purchased them from a great TV guy on L.I. named Vaughn that seems to have disappeared. He had a store in Hicksville that had a gazillion old TVs and radios.
I'm in a pretty stressful job but messing around with my TVs, while frustrating sometimes, is a great relaxer. |

I still have to figure out why my Philco has lost HV. But that will wait till a blizzard weekend when I cant do anything outside. Besides, I misplaced my voltage tester somewhere in Fibber McGee's closet, and it is too dangerous to open the door.

You guys know I'm crazy as a Shithouse Rat, but hear me out. In 2-3-500 years, the roundies & other old sets we save might be as valuable as rare cultural icons from a long-ago time. Imagine being the keeper of a CT-100 or a CTC-12 in 2525, to pick a year out of the air, & having said set still work...Or even a lowly bakelite Admiral 7" set from 1948, like I have...Or the 3" 1947 Pilot... Or will people care about stuff like that hundreds of years from now ? Will we be back to living in caves by then, w/only a few "Mad Monk" types keeping the flame of civilisation alive ?

It really gives ya something to think about. I wish I could see what happens that far in the future. I often wonder who will be the next caretaker of my collection, if it is lucky enough to get one after I'm gone. And Sandy G, There's nothin' wrong with being crazy as a shithouse rat, it makes the world more interesting and we wouldn't have you any other way!!

The only problem I have with being THAT way is that most folks who ARE, too, won't admit it... I tend to Bask in the Glory of being Nuckin' Futz...
