Unhappy It never fails.....

I have lost out on one of these 5's at LEAST 5 times on the bay in the last few years. usually--I am done by a day or two before. THIS TIME, however...I HAD the set till 12 SECONDS till ZERO!!

I figured it was an AK'er who got it...

I too, have sought out one of these for about 30 years now. Ever since I WASTED one in 1978 or so, as a kid. I have wanted one for a LOT longer than I wanted the 2000(Which I got about 5 years ago.) I have seen at least 10 of them slip through my fingers in the last 5 years... INCLUDING a couple in my "own backyard!!"

MANY times, I have "backed off" bidding on things, for others, who I KNEW wanted them more than me. On the bay, at auctions, and so on.

Seems like no one returns the favor though....

I have an even worse tale to tell. When I was at tech school back in '79, the TV students would fix TV's for the community. One day, while I was one quarter behind the color class, someone brought a CTC-5 in to fix. The CRT was shot, and the owner just left it. That class tore right into it like, well, nerds in a frenzy. My first knowledge of this was when I saw it in the garage. I asked for and got it. The chassis was loose, missing the knobs, tuner, and all the transformers, even the IF board had been split in half, and someone punched a hole in the side. I wish I'd kept it, cause I could have stuffed a later chassis and tube in it.

I already knew about that one.

At least though--it found a good home, and not a burial!!
