Admiral color set on Ebay
Harry Poster has this one.
I would think there would be plenty vintage color televisions in the Big Apple. I see very few advertised on Ebay. Polaraman http://cgi.ebay.com/1960-Admiral-21-...QQcmdZViewItem |

Tha is beautiful set. You don't see alot of early admiral color sets -- especially in near complete condition like this.
If I were on the east coast I would be all over this set. I just can't afford the bucks to have it shipped here.

Surprisingly, this is only the third round-tube set from 1960 or earlier, I've found in the NJ/NYC area in the last year or more! I suspect everyone throws them out, since they're large and heavy, and keeps those terrible little plastic 1980s & 1990s broken TVs instead! I had to get the Westinghouse 15" from Arizona--I think it was old store stock that might have been a trade-in, or who knows what! Harry |

VERY NICE. I would love to find an early Admiral color set-I had one from the early/mid-60s that I let go once. I always did like oddballs & I think this has more character than another RCA. Don't worry, engineer, I won't get this one!

It's an unusual find alright, but I don't care for it. Too massive, unnecessarily so. I keep hoping the next old color set to emerge from a dark basement corner will be something more along the lines of a 1957 GE or one of the other really early sets you know are out there somewhere, but just never turn up.

What brand of replacment CRT, I wonder? I also wonder, did these sets have Admiral-made CRTs originally? Don't know when Admiral got into the color CRT business. I know in the late 60s their CRT reputation was crap. Order of quality highest to lowest in late 60's (when CRTs had gone rectangular) was something like:
RCA/Rauland(Zenith) --->Motorola----------->Admiral. I recall Moto struck a deal to buy some CRTs from Admiral and there were grumblings that they'd be eating a lot of warranty costs. |

it's RCA
The only thing Admiral about this set is possibly the cabinet and the knobs, the name plate on the bezel replace RCA with Admiral. To be honest this is probably one of the few Admiral models that had a decent picture (mainly becuase it had RCA guts in it)

I love this set. Although its kind of big its not as big as a combo set and the styling is nice instead of being a plane Jane. Since it comes from Mr. Poster you honestly know what you'll be getting. I hope it goes to a collector so it will be well cared for as you dont see many of these even in the RCA version.
