Video Editing Test
Need opinions on this. I haven't used my real prosumer video camera in a while, and it's turning 7 years old.. So I fired it up, filmed some random stuff out front, and tried out Kdenlive to edit it into something that looked at least halfway usable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9BogqazcHI Opinions? Did it turn out ok, considering the content I filmed? What can I improve? All opinions welcome. The car scenes I put in because some movies seemed to favor random car scenes for some reason, so I did that on purpose. The second car flash I timed perfectly with the soundtracks startling noise. |

So since I paid for the camera, it was mine.. I just don't use it often. In total, only 100 hours of use. |

I just hope your amateur horror film would have turned out better than "Birdemic", had you gone through with it.

I really do need to find some people willing to finish putting it together. Never too late. May not be 4k UHD, as my camera maxes out at 1080p, but I would love to do it still. |

It's alright, I am thinking about just making some videos on my own with it.

I see.I got to get a semi pro or pro model for I can make cleaner videos.I'm not happy with my Canon's performance which is a consumer Canon Vixia hf r500 from BJs.To me its not a clean picture and the close zooms look like an old CRT TV out of convergence.I returned the first one which was worse. My 2005 Sony DV camcorder films better then it. |

It sounds like your Canon is like my miniDV JVC I have.. I used to use it a lot, but then started instead capturing from Firewire directly without tapes, then ultimately I got tired and got my first 1080p camera, which was actually a vivitar. It's sensor was the most god awful thing I ever seen. colors were wrong, it had a narrow angle lens. The sound was like telephone quality too. But it WAS 1080p, and not upscaled. But not worth anything.
I ended up getting this Panasonic because if I was upgrading from cheap, I want to go to pro, and as mentioned before, some friends were discussing making our own B-movie horror. As of right now, it's the only camera I have that is 3MOS and have a real optical zoom, and shoots 24fps. Some people consider it useless these days because it's not UHD, but to me that doesn't matter. What matters is what you shoot with it, not the resolution. |

I wish I knew how to do video editing, where I could put different clips together, combining them into one longer video. IE such as clips of different videos of several TVs or radios in my shop into one video, or like clips of outdoor concerts that I have seen of different bands in different places and songs. What is a good program to use, and I need to learn how to do it. Maybe a video of a slide show, like taken at a gathering or Christmas etc. My videos and pictures just consist of bunches of separate files. Any advice?

I must say, editing with this camera has actually been easier with a Linux machine than a Mac.
Using Linux and the editor Kdenlive (which is what I used to edit the clip in the original post), really was much easier. OS X seems to have more issues with this camera, as time moves on, because you can't even explore the folders properly, and QuickTime has a fit if you didn't pay for pro. Linux had none of these issues. Only quirk with Kdenlive is, you really should use Kubuntu, and not Ubuntu, Lubuntu, or Xubuntu. It seems to crash a lot with them, Kubuntu is the best for it. |

I thought QuickTime (7) Pro features were included free now? And I don't think there's even a pro version of 10.
And walterbeers wrote: "What is a good program to use..." Always good to start with what operating system you're using and what your computer's capabilities are. Although my guess is, if you're asking the question, you're not on a Mac... Chip |

Yes, Quicktime for Windows is no longer supported.
Mac Quicktime 10 lives on, as well as 7 (which is much more versatile than 10). Chip |
