ctc 15 combo
just an update on this combo. went through all color circuits and getting sorce voltage. i gave in and swapped crt with my test jig.that was the problem! i now have red.this unit has been a headache. vertical issues, crt, and the tuner will need to be taken apart and cleaned. after the tv is right, then the radio! very loud hum. you can hear the stations very clearly, just the hum that drives me crazy. the turntable doesnt work either. i can see why the ebayer trashed it. way too much work. i will post some pictures after i get it all together. almost forget- needs a focus rectifier too. i hope there are no more problems with this for a long while!

That's the one where the red just all of a sudden went poof?
Kinda weird that the tube would fail so quickly, unless somebody messed with it before. |

Excellent pictures already. That set can compete with anything made in the 90's or newer.

Oh yeah! That picture is amazing! Congrats! The nice thing about a drawn out repair is the content of turning on the set after a hard days work and knowing that you are using something that you put alot of effort and pride into!

Hopefully I'll feel the same once I get the money to replace the convergence IC's in that 61 inch TV I found. |

Do you think that the width will broaden in the first picture as the months progress???? LOL

thanks to all. normally i would have trashed this set. but seeing all the good ones you guys have i decided to go the extra mile. i like this one and the crt looks very similiar to those sylvanias from the early 70s- d chassis.i watched "night of the grizzly on it" today.the color was amazing.now the radio and that humm. any ideas where to start? all help is appreciated.

Humming from what I have learned, is usually a leaky lytic cap and you are hearing the passive 60hz hum, could also be someting in the feedback form a bad component on the amp, does your combo hum while using the tv? If not look at caps in the stereo reciever unit. I could be wrong but Check ESR's on the reciever caps, especially the black beauties...

tv volume and audio is fine.that hum is in radio only. checked caps in amp and they are good. as radio warms up the audio is clear for 1-2 seconds and the hum starts. when you shut it down, same thing. at low voltage, audio is clear.i am not an expert at radios,so it can t be too difficult. thanks for info!

Cool sounds your amp is fine, the amp is seperate from the reciever, on your model I believe the amp, looking from the back in is on the right side, the problem enlies on the stereo itself, check those wax caps on the mainboard. When you power up the tv, you will notice that the tubes in the stereo do not power up, the tv uses an audio output and just uses the amplifier to produce the audio, the bad caps in the reciever if it's close to my model (CTC-16) they are under the tuning and volume control for the stereo. Look for the flaky wax cals on the board, some stand up vetically too. I believe the only difference in your combo and mine is the amp in yours uses tubes as mine is solid state, but the stereo recoevers are simiar.
