I had that same model, it got traded around and another Vk'er has it now...it was probably the best sounding TV I've had. Sometimes wish I kept that one. It's worth hunting a crt for this.

I am definitely in the wrong part of the country. Can't find squat around here. I think the only roundies within 100 miles from here are my one, and Nicks (dozen?).

My 21FJP22 has a weak red gun, and the ubiquitous cataract. Cataract removal via DaveM's method is in it's future for sure. When to find the time.....

GREAT SCORE - looking forward to some beautiful screen shots...

Cheers,

I know this is an old thread, but a few people mentioned my Corvair. Thought I'd post a pic or two.

The white one is my former daily driver. Same car, pretty much, both are 1962 Monza 4 Door Sedans. I sold it to a friend this spring to get him into the Corvair hobby. The white car had some serious Ohio rust issues, that the new owner is more than happy to deal with.

Thanks for being so diligent to save that set. If I ever saw a roundie out for the trash, I would take drastic steps to get it to safety like you did!

I also feel your pain on that CRT. Last month, I had the near-new RCA 21FBP22 "hi-lite" in my '65 metal Zenith neck itself with no help from me or excessive HV.

I sealed it up per Steve McVoy for a trip to ETF for a "rebuild". I guess my Zenith hated having an RCA replacement

WOW! Dave, I hate to hear that about my set's twin! I have never heard of any crt necking for no reason at all! Actually, I have found large tubes to be more substantial than crts in general are given credit for.

If that ever happened around here I would suspect other dwellers of my home to have a silent hand in it. My woman has said more than once that if she were to break my Zenith tube that she would just leave before I could find it and go ballistic. I don't know where she dreamed up that scenario. Heck, shes the red head; not me! LOL

Super save and having found a 21FJ has to be very satisfying. I brightened up your original photo a bit. Looking forward to the post restoration screen shots.

It was bad enough that the CRT got necked but it didn't even have cataract issues.
