The problem with the Hickock [and other early dot-bar generators] is that kids like me would decide to 'improve' the look of the color bars by removing the black plastic caps and twisting the hidden controls under them. The owner of the TV shop made me learn
how the thing worked [along with learning how to use an oscilloscope] and then I had to readjust it so it worked again. #;^)
