date these Zenith brochures?

From the text, these may be very close to the introduction of color sets by Zenith. Can someone date them? Doug?

(I had to split the large one into two parts for posting)

The smooth edge crt bezel was present in the first two years. Then the later model had a different bezel. The one I have is the 29jc20 which was Zenith's re-entry into color in 1962

Sorry, that series was 63-64 the first series used 2 3dg4 rectifier tubes and the HV cage was slightly different.

The first brochure looks to be 1965. They say 16 years of color, then use the 1949 closed circuit example of their color tv success. They also talk about how their color compatable sets waited until hey could perfect the art.

1949 + 16 = 1965

I have no idea how to date the other brochure, except from the 40 years of Zenith mentioned in it. If their first radio sets were in the 1925 range, that would also be 1965 or 66.

The chassis sure looks like the 29JC20 on the first Brochure. Could be the first year 1962. Somebody needs to look up the model numbers to tell for sure. They are before 1965 for sure. Also take a look at the remote on the first Brochure I didn't know the older style were used with Zenith color. Never had a customer that still had one of them with the set.

The first brochure appears to be from 1961.
I found the following information from an ad appearing in LIFE Magazine, November 17, 1961 pgs 8-9.

The ad begins with:
"After 16 years of research and development Zenith quality comes to color TV"

<PICTURE>

The first set pictured in brochure number one is the same set pictured in the ad.
The following description is found below the set in the ad.

"The Bellevue, Model 6040 with Zenith Space Command remote control TV tuning.
Distinctive Danish Modern styling in genuine walnut veneer and solids.
Zenith color TV comes in your choice of 10 magnificent models."

The ad can be seen at:

The second brochure appears to be from 1964. That's when the "Super Gold Video Guard Tuner" was introduced.
Also, the decorative tuner escutcheon changed its' appearance in the 1965 model year.

The second brochure must be from 1963 because Zenith celebrated its 50th year in 1968 as I have literature that says "50 years of quality 1918-1968" and also 1978 brochures that say "60 years of quality 1918-1978". The second brochure here indicates "45 year quality tradition assures highest performance standards", thus 1918+45=1963. That means the chassis we are seeing in this brochure must be a 26KC20. The first brochure is from '62 as all of those models use Zeniths first ever color chassis, the 29JC20. This is prooved because if I look up any of those model numbers in the zenith chassis index, it indicates a 29JC20 chassis. Also, I have brochures that indicate that zenith began color TV research in 1946. 1946+16=1962.

I also agree with your date of 1963. I found an ad in LIFE Magazine dated September 27, 1963 with the statement "Zenith's New Super Gold Video Guard Tuner". The chassis drawing in the ad resembles the chassis in the second brochure.
