So you think Combos are worthless!

Notice there are really only two bidders, who must have really wanted this thing bad. Normally I wouldn't expect one like that to go for more than $100.

I have one of these with a slightly different (lighter) cabinet. I thought i got it at a good deal for $75 in good working condition. Nice set and am glad i have the room for it Its neat to have the porthole and cobra all together in a nice cabinet. The price on this one is kinda steep though even for porthole standards concidering it needs to be restored.

I see that my friend in Chicago bought that set, He is a determined bidder! Has a lot of nice sets, Including a CT-100. Used to work for rca then joined the pd.
A really good guy, He drove 850 miles round trip to bring a RCA G-2000 to me that I bought on the bay. Long drives don't bother him. |

Well guys I don't know if combo's are worth $$$ or not, but I sure do love mine either way. After five months of work, which was an wonderful learning experience for me, I'm finally done with the restoration of my 1951 Zenith Combo. All three components were completely dead when I got it and now they all work great. I love the 19" round tube, its great for watching old movies on.
By the way, one of my favorite things to watch on my antique tv's are old industrial and educational movies from the Prelinger archives. The picture below from my Zenith is from the film "The Story of Television". They have quite a few vintage radio and tv related films at this site. You can download over 1000 of these movies for free. If you download the VCD (MPG) versions you can use your CD-R burner on your computer to burn them to a VDC video disk and play them on your vintage TV's through your DVD player. Here is a link to the site: http://www.archive.org/movies/prelinger.php |

1951 Zenith Combo
Hi Unimatic,
Thought you might like to see this brochure of your Zenith Combo. It's scanned from a 1951 Zenith dealer catalog I won on ebay. Your set is the 238 series screen and mine is the 165 series. Guess the 16" screen in my set is correct. If you don't have this brochure and want a more detailed file for printing let me know. I can send the pages via email. Jim |

Hey Jim, thanks for those scans, very interesting reading. Zenith was really ahead of its time with that Phonevision business. As promised here is a link so everyone can see those scans...
