early panasonic tube color tv, opinions needed..
probubly from the mid 60s smaller portible model ct-64p
cant find much info on it. it dose work and has a nice picture. but i dont have my trailor anymore and its taking up needed space in my apartment, im torn between keeping it or raping it for its tubes, cause im a stereo guy as you all know and its full of tubes that i could probubly use for hi-fi.. |

Spare it, Rob, it is worthy on/of its own....I rather doubt you'd find any real "Primo" audio tubes in there anyway...

Prolly 1968-71 or thereabouts, not very common at all. At the tail-end of the Tooob TV era. DEFINATELY worth saving. Prolly "Hybrid" construction-part Tubes, part solid-state.

this tv version of AK is pretty cool. i had no idea there were people into this stuff. i have a few other really old sets too.
this set has to be pre 1971 due to the panasonic logo styling, and since it says c/s instead of Hz |

Yeah, they had "Hybrid" construction up til the mid-'70s, anyway.

I'm kinda envious I used to live in Fl. and never saw a tube color set let alone one of the mega-rare Japanese imports that was not rebaged by the low-end retail chains (heck I now have 6 tube color sets, and still haven't seen a Japanese tube or hybrid color TV in person rebaged or otherwise).

Keep it. Very few of those left around. Always good to have a vintage set around.
No tubes you can use in audio, weird 9gh8, 8a8 series string type stuff. |

I used to have an early rectangular color Panasonic, it was even older than that one (I think), and it was labeled "Viking". And it was in a wood table cabinet, with an all tube chassis, but it was series-string, used a bunch of those weird tubes.

Viking branded sets were from Canada. They were sold at Eaton's dept store. I saw those sets branded as Bradford, Penncrest and Singer. My hybrid Panasonic is a model CT-26. The tuner and parts of the color, audio and IF is solid state. My set also has AFT. Neat set and in great condition.

well with that much love for these things out there and is rare as these are, i guess.
what the heck, ill keep it around. i would offer it for sale but its so darn heavy it would be a expensive nightmare to ship. are these really that rare? is it worth anything? just curious.. |
