A must see on the way to Early Television Museum is the Air Force Museum near Dayton !

Yes, Phar Lap is there and the Gold Nugget is also there (I thought that it said it was a replica). But I think both of them are on the second floor now. I spent a lot of time there, saw the Tutankhamen exhibit as well. Of course, my son-in-law got us in for free when I was walking the grandson. Interesting and different museum...

"Phar Lap", huh ? Down here, we have the "Final Lap"....A WONDERFUL Beer Hall, very classy, the kind of place where they check you at the door for a gun or a knife, & if you don't have one, they'll GIVE you one...

of Phar Lap and such

wow I would never thought anyone outside Australia and NZ would have heard of Phar Lap..wowo...

and those CBS sets are fantastic.... perhaps the system was ultimately impractical but it sure was pretty good...

The recent Royal Wedding reminds me that in 1953 Queen Elizabeth's Coronation procession was covered, in part, in color using an experimental closed circuit field sequential system with receivers setup in various hospitals in London.

The pictures look so interesting, I hope I can attend the convention myself in the next couple of years.

Great Pictures... Any Kaye Halbert 27 inch B & W, or any other Brand like Muntz 27 inch ? Zenith & RCA showed them in the add's, but wonder if they was produced ?

I had a ~1954 RCA 27" console many years ago. Even though it was frighteningly huge, I wish I had kept it because I have literally never seen another one in the flesh these 30 years later.

when i mentioned....

Phar Lap to our conservators (I work for a state agency involved with historic and archeological sites) ...and that he had become a topic in a thread on the restoration of color televisions there was a look of disbelief.

One, because anyone outside Australia knowing about him and secondly ...."they do what? Restore colour tvs?"

Then I explained that we are talking about sets from the 1950s.

There eyes lit up...

Actually, I have a 1959 RCA CTC-9 that is in queue and I have gotten all tubes that I need, electrolytic capacitors to "stuff" the cans and look forward to seeing a picture on my "Roundie". I even have a replacement CRT that measures NOS to replace the on in the set that measures Zero!

Seriously, hope we have not strayed (too) far OT...
