I'm 99.99999999% sure that one has the 21AXP22 conversion. The exposed screen area looks wrong for the 19VP22. I've had both versions of the 19CT1. The 19" tube looks very different in back (has a flange like the 15GP22), and if I recall, does not use field magnets. Interesting about the experimental stamp though! That makes me think the set could go into orbit, even if it does prove to have the 21" tube.
I eMailed the seller as follows: Hi, Just FYI, your set looks to have the 21" upgrade conversion installed; using a 21AXP22 metal tube. Have you checked for sure? I can see from the front mask, the field magnets, and the tube shroud, that at least at one time, a 21 was in that TV. As you mentioned in the ad, most all of the 19CT1s were upgraded free of charge by Motorola in 1956. You can verify which one you have by pulling the socket off the tube, and checking what style of socket is on it. If it's light brown bakelite base on the tube, I may be wrong, and it's indeed a 19. If it's black bakelite, it's most likely a 21. Also, the pin-out is different. I can send you a photo of a 19VP22 socket next to a 21AXP22 socket if you like; just let me know your eMail address as I can't send a photo from eBay messaging. Best, Charles Charles

I like that starting price! This one looks much rougher than the last one!

I'm .00000001% even more certain that's a 21AX.

I figured more of these would pop up after the last auction, not interested, I think I have a much rarer set than this in my collection right now Maybe..... This one says experimental though, which makes it interesting.

I like that experimental stamp. I'll have to start putting that on my sets.

Seems the original 19" mask has gold trim (probably painted on) directly around the CRT, and the 21" upgrade does not. Also, seems we've seen this "Experimental Not For Resale" stamp on these before.

Definitely looks like a 21AX, you can see the metal shell and the plastic cover.
It's really rough but it could be refinished nicely, I don't think I'd pay the opening bid though. |

The Motorola 19CT1 at the ETF Museum also has the "Experimental Not For Resale"" stamped on the top. I believe there is at least one additional, not counting the current e-bay offering, with the stamp. The ETF set has the original 19" tube with the gold painted mask. ETF - Motorola 19CT1

I wonder how many have the stamp? How many experimental sets do they need??

He sure was a brave soul for plugging it in! I'm surprised he didn't get any unexpected bangs or pows! From the looks of the chassis, you'd almost certainly expect some smoke.
