"Emerson" TV problem

I have a 20" "Emerson" branded CRT TV made by Funai that has a fuzzy picture. After a while of leaving it on, it starts making a loud high piched sound. My father is planning to throw it away, but not sure if it's a simple fix. I'm assuming it's not worth fixing because of the era of it, so I will probably get rid of it unless its super simple. It's from October 2008.

High pitched sound normally is the horizontal, and it can be normal. I had a nearly new SHARP set that had the horizontal whine louder than any other set I've ever seen...It had always been like that, always worked perfect, and was annoying to hear. Was a fine set if you ignored the noise though.

Fuzzy picture could be a focus issue...If it has a focus control you can try that.

Open it up and listen to where it's coming from. My guess is the flyback.

Sometimes there is a wire with a little black tube on it (ferrite bead) that should be glued it place. If it broke loose it can cause the squeal. If it's coming from the flyback there may be nuts on it you can tighin. Just be careful not to overtighten or you can break the core.
