oh, I dunno,

There was a time where I would have thought that it was ugly. Now I think it's the coolest color roundie I've seen!

I think that it is cool. it is like someone in the 50's saw a modern flat screen wondered what it would look like hung off a console, liked it, and then built a console to look like that.

If it had sat on CL until after my college finals week I'd have tried to convince my folks to let me get it.

that edsel is really not ugly.i worked on a few of those and they were actually very smooth riding, powerful cars with many innovations.they were no uglier than some of the other cars back then, especially the rambler line.i think the ctc 9 pictured was a little unusual but not ugly.strange, weird, yes, but ugly,no.of course when i was young i thought phyllis diller was kind of hot!

I had two '59 Edsels, a Ranger 2 door sedan, and a Ranger 4 door hardtop. Realistically, I don't think that many manufacturers made an uglier car. My '58 Ranger, though, was sexay

Sumerian (transliterated - I can't type in cuneiform signs!)
In the first sentence I just agree that the set is beautiful, in the 2nd I say that I wrote in Sumerian.

I never thought the Edsel was a bad looking car -
Well it's not much of a looker compared to other 59 models, but better looking than most anything made in the past 30 years or so.

Curiosity, I wanted to read the stuff written in it. I like to read old spooky weird stuff like spells and incantations. I read other ancient languages too, but Sumerian is my favorite.

And nobody ever talks about the 60 Edsel, which even though I do like the 58-59s, I think is the best looking of the three.

So what was this thread about - Sumerian, Japanese, Edsels, girls with tails, um ... CTC 9s. I noticed that this cabinet "The Paterson" was used for both the CTC9 and 10. How much difference really was there between the ctc 9 and 10 chassis anyway?

Thanks for the info, Adam. I think that it's cool that you're into that stuff! And....um.....yeah....this thread is about all those things....I guess :3

As for the ten, there isn't much difference. As far as I know, only a few circuit mods were made. But, I could be wrong......

Don't forget the Datsun F-10 and the Subaru 360 - laughed off the pages of Consumer Reports showing a photo of it squaring off against a watermelon!

Hehehe...I remember Road & Track "Testing" a 360 in 1969...the WHOLE CAR barely stretched from the front bumper of a '69 Caddy convertible to the trailing edge if the Cad's door..I think the 360 had the same displacement as maybe 2 of the Cad's 8 cylinders....The motor looked like it MIGHT be able to be used as a starter motor for the Cad...Maybe...Seems like the late, lamented Henry N. Manney, 3rd had Big Fun w/it, though...

For what it's worth, the Subaru 360 was the first automobile Consumer Reports rated "not acceptable."

Even back then, you had to take CU with a grain of salt; they were ranting against chrome window crank knobs and what the driver couldn't reach while wearing the (non-retractable roof-mounted) shoulder belt. But the Subaru 360 turned out to be a pretty sorry car.

Not long after, CU tested their first Toyota Corolla and rated it "not acceptable" because of the unreasonable amount of pedal pressure it took to brake the car (well over 100 ft/lbs.)

Its grown

So, the old and still ugly Paterson has grown on me as I look at it! The odd design looks like something with a futuristic look back in its day. Not really sure what the designers were thinking (or smoking) when they conjured this set up, but I’m even more excited to have it in addition to my Brookfield CTC-11.

I like Electronic M’s comment on how it looks like someone hung a flat screen on a console cabinet, your right!

Once I had the Brookfield, I said the only way I’d get another roundie is if I found something older, or blond… With limited space, I hope I find my blond roundie someday and nothing else! That said; I’d still have a hard time passing up other local deals should they surface… I’ll keep the group posted with the Paterson restoration once it commences.

I like it a lot, I think it's very "Mid-Century modern".
