My Setchell-Carlson 427 project- caps, cabinet repair and detailing
A friend of mine had one of these "6 bangers" 40 years ago. He never had an original cabinet for it so he built one in Jr High woodshop. Never mind that I was about to start my Karma Indignia project this Setchell was hollering at me to take it home. Thought maybe you might enjoy seeing the updating.
After some detailing I got the cabinet cleaned up. Due to sloppy packing by the seller the case may have developed an additional small crack and a broken chassis "finger". I'm surprised the case wasn't shattered when I received it! I glued the cabinet and the 'finger' back in place. The radio worked fine when I got it but had a light filter cap hum. Three Hytron tubes and one each of a GE, RCA and Raytheon tube noted inside: The circuit itself looks unmolested: I put in my standard fair of orange drops, 47uF/160v filters and a new #47 pilot light: Too bad there's no music that I enjoy on AM in KC anymore- I don't speak Spanish. It's running great! Fantastic sound quality! I let it run on the bench all afternoon: Time to put it back together. Thanks for looking. Brian. |
