Is this a color set?

By the looks of the CRT, it appears to be a color set and the size of the cabinet leads me to think its a color set. Im really not sure? I can't see any color emblems. Any ideas what kind or type of set this is?

Its at an estate sale by me and it starts tomorrow. The TV is pictured in the 2nd to last row, in the middle.

It is a late 40s or early 50s DuMont black and white set.

I agree - it definitely looks like a DuMont black and white. Not color - but still a great find. Hope it's not too expensive. I'd really love to find one of those someday, I hear they're very well built.

A Dumont of that era would have an Inputuner. This one looks like a "regular" channel selector. Might be a Stromberg. Too bad it's so far. I don't yet have a Stromberg tv. Not holding my breath for a K-1 LOL.

Maybe not a Royal Sovereign but a big tube anyway, maybe 24"?

Worth saving for sure.

Looks a lot like this Stromberg Carlson 24" set. Someone REALLY should save it, not many 24 inch roundies out there.

Thanks for the info. Im not too familar with the early 50's TVs other than zeniths. Im going to the sale saterday and will check it out. Looks like the basement is rather dirty or or moisture issues. Hopefully the TV is OK. Its probably been down there since 1963..............

Doug
That model 24 Stromberg Carlson from 1951 has problems supporting the 24AP4 CRT. Early versions had numerous broken CRTs from the bracket pulling loose from the cabinet top. Later versions had a reinforced bracket assembly.Treat that heavy girl gently.

It's a 24" Stromberg. I've had one almost identical, and it does have a DuMont chassis.

Hey Doug,

Tried to PM you but your folder is full.

Did you get the Stromberg 24". Or did someone else snatch it first. I would have liked to have it but you had first dibbs on it, and I did not want to step on your toes.

Bob

Didnt get it

Wasnt able to save it. Two reasons, first, they wanted $245.00 for the set! Not negotiable either. Second, I had no idea how huge a 24" set would be. No way would I have a good spot for this set. The thing must be 4-1/2' high! I took a pic of me standing next to it so you can get an idea how large the set is and Im only 5'-9"! Never seen a console TV this large. It is in very nice condition and all complete including the back cover. Perhaps someone here can still save it.

There was also a 1967 RCA CTC-25 color set. For the first time in years I passed on a color tube set. The 25 was completely hacked and the back cover was nailed onto cabinet! Set was in sad shape and had to let it go.

I sent them an email asking if it was still available. I will post again if I can save it.

Update 5/12: I made contact witht he estate sale people today. The set is still available and I made an appointment to go get it this Saturday.

Thanks Doug for taking a pass on this set. I would rather have this set than a 1965 Zenith color roundie any day of the week.

Just in case the crt in this set is a dud, I even have a 24ap4 crt for it, that I just picked up on my trip to New York City last week. It tests like a bran new crt.
