Of course, you DO have to pay for the programming somehow...
TV Guide 2 April 1954 - First color commercial (I have not verified this claim, but it makes sense it would be a tobacco company)

Thanks for the scans. I'd love to go back to '53 and interview the art director just to learn what he went through to get those two color screen shots to look that good. They do look to me like C73599 (15GP22) color. There's not a bit of misconvergence visible that I can see. Could have been airbrushed out.

Wayne: I'll bet those are three of the four Colonial theater TK-40's.
