Don't!

...er, pass it up! Misunderstood your inb4. Actually, you should at least verify that it's complete. If it is, it's hard to go wrong. It's an 8T241, a 1948 model that performs wonderfully when restored.

for 20.00 id grab it even if parts were missing ,hopefully the crt is good , or someone hasn't stuck the guts of a modern black and white set inside ,like i found out on similar deal , at least the owner had all the original parts and i was able to save it all ,minus the little special record player .

Welp. I Bought it. It is an 8T241. And he really was asking $20. Apparently his father used to own some kind of radio museum. And he claimed the set was working 10 years ago. Under the chassis looks like several caps were replaced... in the 70s, probably. The best part is, dude pulled out an extra crt and gave it to me. 10BP4. The extra jug has some scratches on the face, it's obviously rebuilt, and it's filth-encrusted. But hey, good deal for $20, eh?

The cabinet is in pretty rough shape. Doesn't look like it has any water damage, but a lot of the veneer is chipped off, scratches here and there, and the finish is very worn.

It has:
All the knobs
All the tubes (minus one 12au7)
A rat's nest
Cob webs

Missing:
Back cover
HV cage cover
Bottom metal cover

I variac'd it and it actually turned on. Picture is crap, that's supposed to be a test pattern. This set is probably going to sit around for a long time. I really didn't want to buy it, but I couldn't pass up this deal.

Glad to see you got the set. Better than it going in a dumpster. You can use this set to test the extra crt you got. The crt is removed from the front face. I got the same model set this past August, at the Illinois Radio Fest swap meet.
