How does your CRT test? A picture that "looks like crap" can just as easily be caused by a circuit issue as the CRT.

Yeah, I don't know how the picture tube could be causing the vertical stripes.

the issue is the tube is weak, the picture is too dark. and so I turned up the HV a little but it produces the stripes.

The 25AP/XP tubes usually respond well to a "clean" function on a rejuvinator and will perk right up. The RCA Colorama tubes were some of the better rebuilds out there. Turning up the HV may be inviting yourself to other problems that will not be good.
I believe a lot of us here would be glad to help but make a solid determination on your CRT condition and we could move this to a better topic/forum if needed. What kind of set and chassis are you working on? |
