The overly contrasty bronzed look of the skin tones is why I asked if there was a link to the source of the image. It looks to me like it could have been a print made from a Kodachrome slide, rather than the original slide. A couple of the printmaking processes in the 40s were essentially Kodachrome emulsion on paper, and since Kodachrome was contrasty to start, the print tended to overdo it.

The early print process was called Kotavachrome.
