Tape (of any kind) certainly deteriorates with age, so you can't hold that up. ANY type of physical media has different ways of failing/degrading over time, as well as rates at which that will happen.
What does hold up is how tolerant digital vs. analog system are of what ultimately boils down to loss of signal. Even with digital technologies, different ones will fail more gracefully than others when there is a loss or distortion of the bits.
Again, I say all this respectfully, but wanted to call out the facts of the matter here.

I understand.I forgot to say if the media was properly stored in a good place.I also agree on quality media back in the day.We had crap then too.Luckily my 40 to 50 year old collection of tapes survived.
