A friend of mine back in '63 or thereabouts got a Sylvania Exponent 4/40 for Christmas. That system sounded great! Garrard turntable, I think a Pickering moving magnet cartridge, bass and treble controls... speakers sounded quite good for their size.
I've been on the lookout off and on for a 4/40 or the one with a tuner 4/60 I think it was, complete with speakers locally. I don't trust shipping something like that. I've seen a bunch of them on ebay over the years missing the speakers.
I have seen some with changed grille cloth but I have no idea how they got it apart to do that, if it isn't obvious in person.
