i use to own one years ago, it goes to a bandpass filter used as a preselector. it was one of the first digital communications receivers offered at radio shack, the bandwidth selector was in the audio section instead of the I.F. amp and the tuning section had one knob to select mhz and one to tune khz. as far as communication receivers go its about the bottom of the line but it did offer the advantage of more precise frequency readout over earlier analog sets.
