GE cheaped out big time with the C1/L2 chassis after making a very reliable set in 1969-70 known as the KE and KE-II.

My uncle had one of these "appliance store specials" and you certainly got what you paid for. While easy to troubleshoot and keep on life support, they were nothing compared to a Zenith, Motorola WID or Sylvania OR even the Admiral, RCA, Mag and Philco in those days. The lousy tuners, short-lived 23VAGP22, and that 3DS3 lead covered rectifier tube was an added bonus
