I had a Fisher system similar to that for a while that I picked up at goodwill a while back that I fixed up and sold. I agree that these Fisher sysems while not as good as the original Fisher equipment from the 50s and 60s are still nice underappreciated units.
I have a couple of 40 WPC units one is a Kenwood and one is a Technics and they both really pump out the sound when mated with two sets of really nice 50 watts speakers, and at quarter volume they get loud enough to rattle the windows in my house quite litterally!
To be honest a nice decent mid range stereo receiver like this or the ones I mentioned above are more than enough power to fill a medium sized room with music with plenty of room to spare when mated with 2 similarly rated speaker sets.
I think anything more than that (stereos that are rated 100+ WPC) are really overkill unless you're trying to play music for an outdoor block party!
