Euro-cars had terrible issues with rust here, no surprise few British cars survived this long!
The only car I had with rustproofing was an '83 rabbit GTI bought in 1988, which was "rusty jones".
Inside pockets of the hatch lid had wax-like coating. It never rusted and I sold it in 2003. Great car, made in the New Stanton, PA VW plant which later made CRTs for Sony.
On the flip-side, my CA-built '06 Tacoma was recalled by Toyota in January for a frame rust issue, still sitting at a local dealer waiting for a new frame from the OEM and a US manufacturer , with an Enterprise rental
all on the Big T's dime. Think I should have got after market rust-proofing?
