1955 Motorola 19CT1 Color Television

Latest deal fell through so it's for sale again. This rare set is in very nice shape and the CRT tests good; electronically untested and unrestored. This set has undergone the factory (dealer) conversion to 21" as will be apparent to those familiar with these sets by the lack of the gold trim around the CRT opening in the screen mask. $1500 Call six zero three 938-5752 or send message through VK.

I just realized this set has been converted to a 21AXP22 (as were many of these sets). It does not have the original 19VP22. To be fair, I think this should have been pointed out in the original ad. Still a good price for this very uncommon set.

Nice set. Do any of them have the 19VP22 anymore, or was that tube a huge turd like the 15GP22?

Some do, such as this one here http://www.pakratz.com/19CT1_pix/104_0463a.jpg

IIRC the 19VP22 was basically a 19" 15GP22 with the electrostatic convergence deleted and replaced with the electromagnetic convergence clover all newer sets used. It must have been an easy swap to the 21AXP22 compared to the RCA CT-100 to 21CT55 conversion that involved partially redesigning/rebuilding the sweep circuits.

It's actually closer to a big version of the 15HP22, GP had a flat dot plate where all other tubes had phosphors printed on the curved faceplate. Fred is selling his, btw. He's asking $4k, the 19VP22 is good.

Does anyone know what happened to Fred? I've sent him an email and tried calling a couple of times about his set with no response.

It seems like that CRT was used in the Motorola, CBS Columbia and the Raytheon. The tube was CBS Hytron sourced. They also made the Westinghouse 22EP22, that was also a flop. At least the 15GP22 was somewhat of a sucess. There's a lot of those things around that still have a great picture.
As much as I like Motorola products, that set isn't my "Dream Set". The TS 905 is more to my liking. :thmbsp:

I think that Westinghouse made the 22EP22, but CBS had a similar sized CRT in the works at the same time. The CBS had a metal flange, while the Westinghouse jug was assembled perhaps using a early version of frit or electro sealed.

Where were the CRTs in ts905s sourced? RCA? Branded as Motorola?

I'm pretty sure they were RCA sourced! It was the last color set, Motorola built until about 1962, when they came out with the TS907 or TS912. Those sets were equipped with RCA sourced 21FB's or 21FJ's. :scratch2:

They don't have it, if you are referring to the pictured Motorola TV. They just "borrowed" that image from a different web site that posted the picture about 2 years earlier. http://www.smittystv.com/Radio%20&%20TV%20Gallery.htm
