ctc4 cabinet

Came across a large blonde cabinet today thrifting. No chassis or back but it did have the schematic still taped on the inside...checked out Ed Reitan's site and it is a CTC-4. A little wear on top but would be great for anyone that needed a replacement. It was $40. Any interest?

In a side note, I went to a sale today and they had a mid-later 60's Coronado color set (not a roundie). Sale ends tomorrow.

Hmmm, my CTC4-dar is going off... First there's a CTC4 knob on the Bay, now a cabinet. Only a matter of time before someone finds the whole thing now! lol

There is bound to be somebody out there who could use a better CTC-4 cabinet. In general that price isn't anything to get excited about but those are pretty rare sets.

I'd like to see somebody grab that Coronado. They hardly ever show up.

I might try to get the Coronado if it is still there. A large 50's rambler in an affluent western suburb is coming down (sadly). It was pretty nice at one time and full of stuff Everything is for sale. Get this..what is left in the house tomorrow is going to be burned (I guess it is cheaper to burn it down vs. tear it down).

Years ago I stumbled upon a farmstead that was slated to be burned/bulldozed. There were probably a couple dozen old TV sets there, maybe more. I saved what I could but time was short. I know that lots of late 50s/early 60s bw consoles got burnt up.

Gary, I would definitely buy that CTC-4 cabinet if you have the room to store it. Someone is very likely to have an extra chassis that could be restored to make a complete set, and those are very rare sets.

Gary,

I would like to have it. Check your messages.

Thanks!

Guess I'm a few minutes late!

Gary, - and Bob G.

I don't want the cabinet, but I do need a pencil box (cover broken off and missing for 30+ years thanks to my then young nephew and nieces), and the V - shaped trim under the RCA Victor nameplate (same reason!).

Regards,
Jim

Jim,

If I get the cabinet, I may have an extra pencil box that you can have from the cabinet that I toss out. I will let you know.

Thanks Bob for the generous offer!

Keeping fingers crossed.

Regards,
Jim

I got word from Gary that he has picked the cabinet up and it is now in his possession. John Folsom and I will be making a road trip from Milwaukee to Minneapolis on Wednesday to pick the cabinet up.

Gary reports that the cabinet is in very good condition and it is (get this) A full door Cheltingham CTC4 model.

I will post photos later this week after I get it back to Milwaukee.

Jim... It looks as if I will have a pencil box to donate to your ctc4 pretty soon. It will be a plain brown one. I will contact you as soon as it becomes available.

Sweet, it seems all we ever see around here is the Director 21 model.

Here are a couple photos of the CTC4 Cheltingham cabinet we picked up from Gary yesterday. In general the cabinet is in very good condition with the exception of some scratches on one side and water marks on the top. The top and sides will need to be refinished, but the doors and inside the doors are in like new condition. The decals, grill cloth and pencile box are just like new.

My plans are to canibalize one of my 2 crummy Haviland model ctc4 sets to restore this fantastic Cheltingham to opperational status.

Many thanks to Gary for getting this for me. It is one of the best items in my collection.

That is a beauty.

Since this cabinet was apparently never modified, it sort of makes one wonder where the original chassis ended up. :scratch2:
