Where was this NBC truck in 1964?
Any idea where this may have been? 1964 Kodachrome slide on eBay, shows some people posing in front of an NBC truck, with ship propellers on the ground at the left edge of the image.

Ship comissioning/Christening, perhaps? The aircraft carrier America was launched in 1964, as was I. The keel for the John F Kennedy was laid in 1964, probably the event. It could have also been a sub or the turnover of the USS Alabama battleship ceremony, also in 1964.

Wasnt the Thresher sub disaster about that same period? I forget...
looked it up, April of '63.. I knew someone whos dad was on it. |

From Wikipedia: The ship was awarded to the state on June 16, 1964, and was formally turned over on July 7, 1964 in ceremonies at Seattle, Washington. It was actually Bremerton, not Seattle, but close enough. BTW, my mom is from Foley...God's country, LA..... |
It could also be the arrival/departure of the SS United States - she sailed from NYC to Europe in 1964.
Another thought - the slide could depict something in late 1963, and was processed in 1964. |
...or the NS Savannah (the first commercial nuclear ship) made visits to East Coast ports in 1964, and would have certainly attracted national media.

And an early photobomb at the back of the truck. The truck does not look like big NBC. Too crude. Looks like a jeeped up Greyhound and the artwork looks amateur.
This page on Eyesofageneration.com may help. About 1/3 of the way down is a story on Red Skelton's remote truck operation and his trucks/bus look just like this one. Thanks to Bobby Ellerbee for this page. This truck looks to be after Red sold the trucks. Calling Steve Dichter. http://eyesofageneration.com/Bobby_Collections_TK41.php |
