About the same time I looked around at the nearly 1,000 tapes on shelves and boxed up I had already recorded over 20 years and never watched, and stopped recording stuff off the air and satellite. Still have not opened a box yet. What a waste. But I broke my habit.

A friend just asked me about the hundreds of video tape copies of movies, she got from her uncle.
I replied that the quality probably wouldn't be that good. I seems to me that, the longer the tapes are kept after being recorded, the picture quality diminishes. Especially, when recorded in the SLP speed.
Factory made pre-recorded tapes, held up much better.

Yep those skinny 19 micron-wide tracks at SLP just don't retain as much magnetic flux as the 58 micron-wide tracks laid down on the tape by dedicated duplicating machines. SP tapes recorded on a 4 head machine should do as well as pre-recorded tapes though. Plus SLP (EP) 19 micron tracks require more precise tape path alignment for decent interchange between different playback VCRs.

I last got these movies yesterday

1) You only live twice (1967) -- EXCELLENT MOVIE!!
2) Enemy Territory - (1987) -- OK MOVIE
3) The Chase (1994)

This movie is an example of a transfer they didnt do right..... @ the very top its a different colour thru most of the movie.. (They must have had other equiptment TOO CLOSE to the unit while they were copying it (Like when you place a magnet too close to the screen)) -- Its sad they didnt notice this!! (If they did maybe they could have re-done it) -- It was OK,not that good though....... (Just a car chase thru the whole movie)

4) Its a wonderful life (1946?)-- I had a 1999 release of this movie by ARTISAN i got a couple months ago and it was aweful!! (Flat, etc) -- I couldnt watch it,it obviously had been altered..... I got rid of it!

Yesterday i found a 1993 release from REPUBLIC PICTURES and its 1000% better! (The original recording) I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!

Last NEW title bought on VHS? That's easy.

PINK FLAMINGOS by John Waters. I bought it on the day it was released around 1999 or so.

Such a twisted movie.

I've given away to thrift stores most of my VHS collection around 900 tapes. I've still got several hundred keeper recordings, and 4 or 5 nice low-mileage machines to play them on.

Still got some Beta stuff, too, and 3 really nice machines for them, too.

I thought pink flamingos was older than 99.. I saw it, and yea, that's a seriously messed up movie.

It was made in 1972. This was the release with outtakes.

Divine was my favorite.

I think my last VHS purchase was a blank to record MST3K's on. It was quite a while ago.

My last purchase was today: TANGO AND CASH!! (I got a bunch of tapes for christmas and this was one of them but sadly it was "DIGITALLY MASTERED" -- This one i found today IS THANKFULLY NOT!!)

Good movie!!

Blake's 7 with the last two episodes Warlord and Blake , i have the series on vhs from pbs in the 80's but couldn't find the last two episodes ( i think the taped was tossed on me ) so i bought it from ebay , all these including the vhs tape were bounced to discs .

shortly before that i bought a JVC used hi fi player from ebay with sqpb , HS-A51U , these are great for sharp image playback and even svhs looks good although not as good as when played on a svhs vcr.

btw i have that its a wonderful life vhs , it might even be newer , looks nice but when i got the recent remastered dvd i must say its even more wonderful , you get the colorized one too and its a joke , i can't sit through it , less contrast , less clarity.

Friday the 13th (1980)
Nightmare on Elm Street (1985)
Deadly Friend (1986)
Police Academy (1984) -- It was a treat finding this today!! (Before today all i could find was a "DIGITALLY MASTERED" copy of this movie which i didnt want!)

Police Academy Part 1 is incidently THE BEST MOVIE in that series!!

A month or 2 ago I purchased "The Charmkins" on VHS from a thrift, which is a children's cartoon from 1983

I still have a load of the VHS tapes from when they were first released in the 1980's.

The pilot starred Jeff Hunter. It was made into a 2-parter show... (#16-1, and #16-2) the show where Spock is being tried in court.

I ran 16mm prints of the original series on TV for alot of years.

kramden66 03-20-2013 12:39 AM

Man trap was the first to air on nbc because it was a planet episode with colorful scenes , funny because its one of the few monster episodes and it was a show being promoted as the first adult space drama and not a monster of the week show.

i have some of those trek tapes if your interested , i'm not going to hold onto them

I ordered the whole set the other day but THANK YOU VERY MUCH for offering!

I just got "A view to a Kill" today (Original recording (CBS/FOX release - 1985))

EDIT:

Im posting this slightly out of order but I just got my ORIGINAL STAR WARS VHS tape today that i ordered last week.....

http://swonvideo.com/vhs/vvhsanh1982us2tape.htm

Thankfully it is NOT DIGITALLY MASTERED and is exactly like i remember it before they changed it :)

EDIT2:

I last bought a MR ROGERS episode ("Mr Rogers talks about Parents being away") -- It is 66 Mins which is strange because most of the shows he did are 30 mins! (This must be a special HOME VIDEO show cause @ the end he doesnt say "Its good to that Ill be back when the day is new and ill have more ideas for you......." he says "Its good to know im your friend")

I used to love that show,i feel sad that fred Passed away...I feel his show means MORE than the garbage on PBS now!

I think His show is still on PBS on sat mornings (It used to be) but im not sure........ Its really sad, good programming replaced with crap!

EDIT3:

I just got Short Circuit 2 and Halloween (1978) :)

EDIT4:

I just got For your eyes only (I hadnt seen it in many years,it was quite awesome seeing it again, excellent movie)
