Bumping after only 9 hours and 2 minutes? A bit impatient, aren't we?

Kamakiri 02-27-2013 06:31 AM

I'm in Buffalo NY, and I've got one. Will need some work, though.

ECHO!...ECHo!...ECho!...Echo!...echo!...ECHO...ECH o...ECho...Echo...echo......

Seriously dude there is such a thing as over bumping. Waiting till it nears the the bottom of the classifieds section of the forum seems like it would be more polite, and not make you seen EXTREMELY impatient. Also these things show up on ebay alot and go for around 100$-250$ last time I checked. If you are dying to have one that much then just scrape together like 350$-450$ and during the last minute of the auction bid it to the moon so that no one wanting to pay near the going rate there will have a chance.

Robb, Any chance you're coming to the ETF MEET in Ohio this Saturday? I plan to be there and I have an older, working GE Porta Color 1967 vintage, that I plan to bring and sell. It's great cosmetically, and works quite well, for it's age, not entirely perfect, but satisfactory in my opinion. You can PM me with any questions, Dave, "Bigdavestv"

Robb 05-14-2013 10:45 AM

No I am not.
I want to avoid shipping the TV as well, thats why Im looking locally.

zenithfan1 05-14-2013 12:08 PM

I may want that, Dave. See you at the ETF.

Electronic M 05-14-2013 02:44 PM

If you don't want it, then I'll probably get it.
I've been wanting a Portacolor since Bush was in office.

DaveWM 05-14-2013 06:44 PM

and if they don't want it I would

I don't think there's a single active member here that's even close to Toronto. I'm in Buffalo, I'm probably closest....however my Porta Color is now in a new home in Florida :)

The ONLY thing I know of in your neck of the woods is the MZTV museum. Maybe they have one on a back shelf somewhere?

and its getting a daily work out :D

BigDavesTV 05-15-2013 11:53 AM

Thanks guys, looking forward to meeting you gents that are able to go, I can hardly wait :-) :-) Looks like my Porta Color will find a new home at this meet! My wife will be excited, as (of course) more typically goes into the house, than goes out! BTW, I started working on my Panasonic color tv ct397 hybrid last night, probably won't get it finished before next week, at least, but making a start helps!

DaveWM 05-15-2013 02:39 PM

I don't think you will have any problem unloading it, they are small so they have a high W.A.F. (in my house anyway).

Robb 05-31-2013 07:21 PM

Not only that, but most people think they're kinda "Cute"...

baursam 05-31-2013 08:34 PM

Toronto Farming ton Hills. 4 hour drive each way. If I REALLY wanted this set, I would have jumped on it in a heartbeat!!! Try kijiji. This link will show all of Canada. http://www.kijigeek.com

Sandy G 05-31-2013 08:57 PM

I would think that in Toronto, as big & wealthy of a place as it is, it SHOULDN'T be TOO hard to scare up a Porta Potty...Try hitting some of the older, tonier suburbs for yard sales...Post notices on the bulletin boards in supermarkets, if they have 'em... Advertise in the classified section of the newspaper....check out repair shops, older TV dealers..The CHASE is often the most fun, anyhow...Who knows, you may also turn up a Fifties-era Roundie or some exotic postwar set...

truetone36 05-31-2013 09:53 PM

The closest thing I have is a Portacolor II from '74. It's the solid state version though, and I'm quite a long way from you.

Robb 06-01-2013 12:24 AM

Toronto is a snobby city. People do not care for old stuff ! Trust me, old TV's are not easy to find here !!

baursam 06-01-2013 11:02 AM

Rob keep an eye on kijiji for places like Waterloo Guelph London Kingston etc. I see lots of TVs popping up from places not far from Toronto and good stuff too. I'm in Alberta, so can't take advantage of them usually but they do show up. Good Luck!!

I do a kijiji ontario search daily. I never see anything !

baursam 06-02-2013 12:46 AM

Strange. I see vintage TVs all the time in Ontario. Not in the West. When I do see them they are gone quickly, usually within a day or two.

Yeah, but nothing from pre 1985-ish !

baursam 06-02-2013 12:49 AM

Have you tried contacting this person and seeing if he has anything for sale. This comes up in kijiji regularly for Ontario

Here is another possibility. He repairs radios and TVs , again near North Bay. Maybe he has some for sale. Worth a try
