There should be a date of manufacture on a label on the back of the TV. You can use any Sony TV remote with this set - they use the same basic codes for all the main functions.

The Manual was printed in 1987; the Original Remote is an RM-717

ok thanks
Says March 1988

You might be out of luck using a universal remote, as some of the functions like picture, channel scan and band selection, can't be accessed. :sigh:

I did not say to use a universal remote, I said that any Sony TV remote will work properly.

Was this set never used, or did the previous owner just watch it for the last 25 years with the peel-off stylized Sony marketing logo in the upper lefthand corner of the screen?

I've seen many of these Sony's with the sticker still on the screen, and yes, the sets were well used.

Not on my own Sony's, though.:nono:

If it's anything like my KV-1311CR TV/monitor, that's a bulletproof set with a great picture. I bought my 1311CR new in the mid-1980s and it has been used almost daily in the years since then. It sits on my office desk, where it plays movies while I go about my business. Last year, a couple of electrolytics got tired and created some picture interference. After replacing those, the Sony is back on the road and still looking good every day.

Hi Phil, yours is Made in Japan, while mine in Mexico so I think yours is a higher end model than mine.
