CTC-5 on E-bay
This E-bay item is the CTC-5 "Special" model. The cabinet is in iffy condition and this price leader model is made of hardboard and cannot be refinished easily. If the 21AXp22a picture tube is ok, it might be worth it for Detroit area collectors to bid on it. My first color tv was this very model, bought used in 1962 for $125.00. It wasn't the Deluxe chassis, but if memory serves, produced a nice color picture.

It'll be interesting to see what it brings.
Mine's nicer! :yippy: |
Tim,
That is a nice CTC-5. :p:. And the blonde cabinet and UHF make it rarer then most. It will be interesting to see what the E-bay set fetches. |
ctc-5..:)
thanks for the tip steve..since i have most bugs ironed out of my ctc-7..(except a video ringing problem,i am picky not much noticeable),i now have to find out what filters are bad in my ct-100...interesting as i have played this set for many months with no problems and just today i turned it on and a major hum in audio and hum bars in video came on,with a small pic. either a bad filter or the seleniums took a puke.. hehe...i think it got jelous of me working on the ctc-7..:),i placed a bid on the ctc-5.
what do you guys do with a cabinet that is that marked up? terry |
CTC-5
Hi Terry,
Your CTC-7 is coming along nicely. The CTC-5 "Special" cabinet as I said is hardboard glued to a wood frame. The Mahogany finish is printed on the hardboard. So stripping is out. The best you can do, in my opinion, is to apply some filler where needed and then paint the cabinet. Black would be my color choice. Another option might be to apply that adhesive shelf paper in a wood grain pattern. The results can be pretty good. My CT-100, which was recently restored, is experiencing some hum and video breakup on the upper channels. I guess I will pull the tuner and do a good cleaning for openers. Good bidding. |
CTC 5
Kamakari, yours certainly is nicer!
I am looking for a CTC 5. I may bid on theE-Bay one, but I prefer the full-cabinet consoles to the table top sets. If someone really has their heart set on this one (on e-bay) let me know and I'll leave it alone. If not, I'll jump in. Thanks, Kirk KStanki@aol.com  |
ctc-5
well.. i got more pics of the ctc-5 from the seller,it looks in terrible shape, the chassis looks rusted in areas or just plain out real dirty, the cabinet top is badly scratched also, and all over..good luck to who ever gets it,i will not be bidding on it.

Good Move, Terry.;)
You just have to pass on some items. |
look normal for a 21axp22

hi guys... hope this pic goes thru but from everyones judging does this pic look like a normal 21axp22 or one that is burned from a filament booster,if so i didnt know they did getter flashing at the base of the tube..?..?
terry |
that tube either has a lot of hours on it or 1 or more boosters have been on it a while.
probably a goner. btw i have seen 3 boosters stacked on a ctc38. that tube was so dead no light at all could be seen even in a dark room with all 3 g2 turned up. the back end looked chrome plated like your picture. |
High Mileage
Terry, thats a sure sign of many hours use, almost no doubt it's bad.
The base cap doesn't look like one from 1955 though, bet it's been replaced at least once before, perhaps it's not even a 21AXP anymore?? Eric |
ctc-5
well i thought so about this tube, looks like it is up to 327.00 now,
i hope the person who wins got this same picture. i know someone in my area who has a new-never sold G2000 set from like 1968,they sold for like $2000.00 and was RCA's first solid state color set,he has been trying to get me to take it,its too big,i told him i wanted to save room for the 3 model rca color sets to match my ct-100..:),a ctc-4,a ctc-5,and a ctc-7(which i have now), terry |
The Price is Right???
Wow, that poor batterd CTC-5 went for over $400. The high bidder actually did us a favor. The value of vintage color sets in good condition just went up. As for that cherry RCA G2000 that Terry mentioned: that is a perfect set to offer on e-bay. It was a landmark receiver and could command a high reserve. Shipping it could be a bit costly.

SteveD,
Having the price of vintage color sets going up is a double edged sword. It means we collectors may have to pay higher prices to gather pieces we want for our collections. I'd like them to stay cheap for a while yet until I am completely out of room. :) Rob |
Touche'
"Point" well taken Rob.
It is a double edged sword. |
