My first roundie

2 Attachment(s)
After looking for years, i finally found this 1960 CTC-10 for sale in chattanooga, tn and was the right price. Does have the original 21CYP22A and only has few replacement tubes so this set is somewhat low hour. Planning to slowly restore it to correct working order.

Radiotronman 06-29-2017 03:10 PM

That's a nice looking roundie! I'm restoring a ctc-10 right now myself. Did you not grab the other roundie there while you were at it? What brand was it?

What other roundie?

Radiotronman 06-29-2017 05:50 PM

Looked like there was one in your second picture.

Any help you need ask I do have the service manual on disk for it. Love working on these sets. I'm still looking for a 63 Curtis Mathis Color. I have 4 older sets. 60 CTC 10 RCA like yours. 61 RCA CTC 11. 66 GE Porta Color and a 67 Motorola 22". All working.

yes, I saw that one but was not for sale and I did not have room in my motor vehicle anyway.

Very nice set, and the crt still works.:thmbsp:

I got a question, I need to get the chassis out but i am having a hard time getting the HV wire disconnected from the tube since its under the CRT shield, what are the easiest ways to get it disconnected and hooked back up?

IsthmusTV 07-01-2017 09:14 AM

The HV lead disconnects at the other end. It is connected to a socket on the HV rectifier cup. Open the HV compartment and the lead just pulls out (you'll need to remove the strain relief first). I hope that makes sense.

Nice set, good luck with your restoration.

Very nice set. You've got raster and a good CRT. Good start.

Tom S 07-01-2017 01:11 PM

I rigged mine up so I could work on it by setting it on a box with paper in it. plenty heavy and it's just the right height so you can make tests. The only thing you'll need to do is clip a lead for the crt ground. Your set looks very close to playing.

It alrady has that "Glorious Lollipop Color" you'r ahad of th gam !

Yes it does make a picture, but red is almost non existent.

TUD1 07-02-2017 02:55 PM

I will be going to service Jacob's CTC-10 in the near future. Hopefully we will get the red back and get the TV set up properly.

I have replaced a 50 MFD cap on the vertical board and now I have a full raster but, when I apply a signal, it still has an inch on the bottom and top.

If it is 16:9 aspect ratio programming coming from your signal source then that is normal...A good way to check that is to minimize contrast and maximize brightness...So blacks become grey....If your black bars turn grey, but you can still see contrast/picture content and lack there of then you know it is your signal source.

If it truly is not scanning that area then try readjusting height and V linearity (preferably with a test pattern)....Some vert sections will scan more at a different frequency (which the vert may run at without sync signals) or without a blanking pulse from a broadcast

LADR 08-06-2017 12:29 PM

I have found dead 40 mfd. I do have a 47 mfd but wrong voltage. The dead cap is a cornell dublier "beaver" dry electrolytic.

mrjukebox160 08-06-2017 07:57 PM

If your replacement is of a higher voltage it will work fine.

LADR 09-28-2017 05:52 PM

Ive replaced all bad/shorted tubes except for two. The audio this thing puts out is amazing and the set has the RCA color tv cabinet smell. And red is ded.

LADR 11-04-2017 06:46 AM

There is no hope for the CRT. It needs a new one. Can someone spare a good 21CYP22A?

miniman82 11-04-2017 07:43 AM

I have an FBP you can have, doesn’t test the greatest but all guns come up to green on my tester. Figure out a way to get it to roll tide country?

Guess the only way is to ship it, im kinda afraid to expose larger CRT to the mail system because its way to easy to break. I wonder how much shipping is?

Bill R 11-04-2017 07:27 PM

pack it well and check with Grayhound.

Buy the Curtis Mathes for looks, but don't expect any better than RCA Chassis quality in a Roundie either. Fancy cabinetry, fancy warranty when new. Meh chassis. Want quality color TV, buy the best Zenith chassis in whatever cabinet. Buy engineering, buy reliability, buy things worth buying which aren't mediocre in a fancy cabinet. Even cheapie late Philco roundie had unique engineering (hybrid chassis) and great color for a lot less than a C/M ever did. Simple facts.

And don't worry, I'll pay shipping.

Greyhound doesn’t do glass picture tubes anymore, I asked. That leaves UPS (who have destroyed a rebuild CRT for me) and uShip.com, I suggest uShip.com or pony express here on the forums.

No red at all, does the heater light on the gun for red, there are 3 . If there is Alittle red there I have something that will bring the red back.

Bill Cahill 11-05-2017 11:28 PM

HI. These RCA TV's tend to have broken ground connections which need soldering. Also, check the resist9rs in the color circuits. Hope this helps.

KentTeffeteller 05-12-2018 09:02 PM

LADR, and TUD,

Next time you're coming to Chattanooga, give me some notice, and we'll try to meet up somewhere and introduce ourselves, LADR, nice Roundie Score. And RCA made nice pictures in good order.

Do you have any televisions? I’m guessing you do. LOL
