That must be Wingate's classier brother.

Nice score!

Amazing what good storage can accomplish!

Styling isn't my cup of tea (I'm a sucker for "ugly duckling" sets) but I'm glad to see it saved. Here's hoping the 21AXP22A is in phenomenonal shape! :thmbsp:

Actually, The Wingate was the top of the line CTC-5 model. This Arliss looks to have been refinished.

Not refinished, completely original. There were several different veneers to choose from on the Arliss, the model number on this one ends in 5 which denotes mahogany. The one in your link may have been another ilk.

Nick, You are correct your Arliss had the Mahogany finish. That was the only finish available on this model. Perhaps your set, as Jr. Tech pointed out is severely faded from the sun. The veneers always varied with the individual wood selected. Matched veneers for the doors would be very difficult in large and rapid production runs.

You mean how the right hand door looks really light compared to the rest of it? It's not faded at all, it just happens to be a lighter section of veneer as far as I can tell. This was also shot in direct sunlight, so the angle of the light may have hit it in that spot making it appear lighter than it really is. It is the lightest shade of any mahogany set I own however, the rest are darker by quite a bit. Could also be that it wasn't stained as much as the other parts when it was built, I've had different sections of identical pieces of wood absorb stain differently on me before, requiring multiple extra coats to match surrounding portions. Either way, it's in the best condition of any of my unrestored sets.
