Shopping Tips Please - in Manhattan/NYC

Good day to All,

Could someone please recommend a few shops (not web sites) to shop for today's electronics in Manhattan, New York city.

Looking for a place with DVD players/TVs/radios/Hi-Fi.

Would also appreciate tips on where you can find DVD movies & CD records if such places still exist.

Thanks! In advance for any leads,

Best Regards
jhalphen

Jerome,

I've had good luck with B&H - they are at 420 9th Avenue. Biggest and best selection, prices are reasonable. They are also on the web. I stopped there in 2012 and was just in awe of all the stuff on display. I got photo batteries, some 8mm Digital Tapes, and a better camera strap for my Nikon.
As to records and CDs, I dunno - Gothamist may have a recommendation - http://gothamist.com/ - I used them for restaurant reviews during my stay.
You may have to go into another borough for music - rents are ginormous in Manhattan, making it tough on small retailers. Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens will most likely have the CD and record stores. Genre? No guarantees there.

EDIT: Also, ask doormen and cabbies -they know the places too.

I remember going to the Big Apple w/my Dad back in the 70s, & there was at least one street that the shops were TINY, barely wide enuf for a door, showcase, aisle & electronic gizmos piled to the ceiling. Seems like most of 'em sort of specialized in one or 2 varieties of gizmo. This was a LONG time ago, B4 computers , CDs. My Mom loved the street that was the "Diamond" street, same basic set up, biggest difference was that all the sales guys/clerks were Hasidic Jews, they all wore suits, dress shirts, NO ties, full beards, but NO Moustaches... Every one of 'em was likely carrying half a million bux worth of diamonds.. I dunno if I was as ODD looking to them as THEY were to me... But if you can't find what you're looking for in the big Apple, you likely don't really need it anyway..

Not anymore. They shut down in 2014.

Wow, you're right. I had no idea. Such is the volatile existence of retail stores in this age of shopping online for everything.

Good day Gentlemen,

Thank you! all for your tips.

Inside Manhattan, Best Buy was the only place i found what was wanted: a NTSC zone 1 DVD player ( a 9" Insignia model).

BTW, they had about one hundred DVDs for sale and the same in CD music.

I went to B&H, really cool Pro & semi- Pro A/V gear but not many consumer items.

Audio CDs : found nothing inside Manhattan.
Vinyl 33 & 45 RPMs records: "Vintage shops" galore...

Best Regards & Thanks Again,

Jhalphen

They keep tellin' us that pretty soon, there will be Television in COLOR-Imagine THAT...The thing I wanna see is airplanes powered by JETS-Just like military planes..
