Hello from Saskatchewan!

Hello everyone. New to VK. I live in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. I've had for a little over a year now a 1958 Admiral TV. It still works and I love it to death. We hook up a DVD player to it and play 1950's tv shows such as I love lucy, The honeymooners, Jack Benny, just to name a few. I try not to use it very often however because I fear one day it may finally die on me, and I'm dreading that day!
I've attached a picture of my baby!

Welcome! Replacing the old paper capacitors in that Admiral would be a good idea if you want to continue using it regularly. It's a fairly straightforward process with plenty of resources and how-to's available on the web, not to mention folks here that can give advice.

Welcome.

Definitely a good idea to change the capacitors. I have run some of my sets as daily watchers for years on end. If you replace the caps it should be more reliable, but daily use will eventually get it to the point of needing maintenance new caps(it should last longer between failures with new caps) or not....sweep tubes and occasional resistor drift/failure will cause need for repair of a 6+hour a week set in 1-6 years.

Paper and electrolytic capacitors need to be replaced, and maybe the horizontal phase detector diode pack.. selenium rectifier if there is one. Test all tubes and change any weak ones.. you should be good to go for years. Good to see another Canadian, I'm in Edmonton.

Thanks for your advise everyone. I'm really hoping to find someone near me that I can commission to restore it for me, as electrical and electronics are not my Forte at all. So I'd hate to destroy it. Maxhifi, maybe I could bring it to you in Edmonton? Or perhaps you know someone in Saskatoon?
