I dont see many sources for new or reman picture tubes. Specifically, I have a 27" Zenith Advanced System 3 from 1989 that is dimming, but otherwise works great, and looks great. I would like to keep this set going, even though I know the price of a tube is more than the thing is worth. I keep hoping for a NIB tube on fleabay for $1.49, but it hasn't happened yet....

Hawkeye in Iowa is a good rebuilder; I think there is an outfit in NE PA, too, for newer tubes like this. Or...check around at some local tv repair shops. You might have good luck finding a good used tube.

Here is Video Display Corp. information...site does not seem to give much info though.

Much of the replacement crt market today seems to be for video game monitors.

Be careful not to use a Zenith CRT made between 1993 and 1994, even if it's new old stock. Those were bad years for that particular 27" CRT and it WILL fail after a year or two and damage the chassis with it. Later ones were't much better, but at least they seemed to mostly cure the shorting guns that damaged the power supply.

The best would be a NOS, or good used one from 1992 older. It probably has an A68ACT00X, which was Zenith's first 27" CRT and was used from about 1985-1994 or so.

My 27" Zenith from 1990 is my primary set. My parents bought it new, and it is the newest set in my house by far.

I still marvel at the sharpness and color... I won't be replacing it for any flatscreen junk anytime soon. :thmbsp:
