It appears to be an RX-90 from 1954

What a beauty she is! Wonder what the condition on the CRT is. He could get more money if the CRt was good. Too bad a picture of the neck was not included. The early color sets are out there, we just need to find them. Wonder where he got this set????

you must read my auction carefully and comepletely!!!

“ b e f o r e “ you bid !!! it’s amazing

how many “lookers/bidders”

don’t even bother to REad the auction first!!!!!!!

with that clearly said: lets begin the auction!!!!

up for auction IS a TRUE PIECE OF TELEVISION HISTORY! THIS IS A 1947 “CBS BROADCASTING” PROTO TYPE COLOR TELEVISION. IT WAS A MODEL AT CBS LABS BEFORE COLOR TELEVISION WAS INTRODUCED IN 1948

IT HAS A 9” SCREEN AND FEATURES...

Ugh, never mind. I don't dare read the whole thing. I lost so many neurons just reading that much, I'm afraid by the time I read it all I'd be a vegetable.

someone ask him if the CBS logo shown in the listing, is an actual screenshot of the TV :D

I read the whole thing, and I BID! I'll hop on a plane the next day if I win, and stick it in storage and worry about getting it home later for this price... Obviously, I won't win, but at least I'm on the list. He has a great feedback record, and I don't seen any trickery in the listing.

Isn't this the same chassis as the 19" CBS set?

His description is a bit inacurate. This is a CBS model RX-90, mand in the spring of 1954. The CRT has likely been changed, as the sets originally had 15HP22s in them (the CBS Hytorn variation of a 15GP22). But this is a great set, with full bandwidth I/Q demodulation, and circuitry very similar the the better known production CBS model 205 set.

Guess as I have one already, I won't chase after this one. Godd luck, bidders!

Perhaps a little less text and a simple Google search would have helped. Where did this seller get his facts? This looks more like a government purchase order then an ebay page. In any case, it will be an interesting auction to watch.

Actually, he ripped it from my site.

still.

or better yet, someone buy it and then demand a refund, "TV does not work as pictured" ;)

The seller has revised the description and added some new pictures which show the set to be in much better condition than I initially thought based on the first set of pics.

Steve is usually very prompt in updating the ETF database, so I'm curious whether or not this set was previously counted.

Steve's ETF site lists 4 RX-90's. Not sure if this ebay set is one of them. Also, am I mistaken? Are there no doors on the ebay set? And in the side view pix, it looks like the lower third of the cabinet has eiher a different wood pattern or the veneer has been neatly cut. Perhaps the doors were removed, or never installed on this "engineering sample".

I just added it. The total of 4 includes it.

I'm out... I quit at $1001., which I would have had to take from billpaying money anyhow :(

I drove up to see the set. The 15GP22 is under vacuum. The set was used by a CBS technical exec. Good, original documentation. It was in service to at least 1962. Clean chassis. No rust I could see.

How hard would it be to get running ,Pete?Nothing seems to be missing. Probably just your typical 52-year-old vintage color challenge. The unknown lies ahead...
