Folks in the St. Louis area might look at this 1961? era RCA round screen with included remote. Looks to be in pretty nice shape.

Great set, but I bet the flyback is bad (first thing to suspect on an RCA with no picture) What do you guys think, a CTC-7 ??

That looks like a CTC-9 or CTC-10 to me. I have the same set in a metal cabinet with the remote option. My RCA service literature says it is a CTC-9 by the outside design but mine has a chassis marked CTC-10. :dunno:

I wouldn't necessarily conclude that the flyback is gone. These vintage sets are so old now that anything could be gone.

Well, I would have to agree with you there. I keep thinking back to the days when I went on house-calls, especially in the summertime when the humidity was high, and when we got a call on a tube RCA with no picture it was almost always the flyback. I keep forgetting that was 23 years ago and those sets were 15+ years old then. So could be anything now.... Wouldn't it be great if it was just the horizontal output tube?!!!! I wonder when the set was last in "daily" use? You'd be surprised on how long some people keep their sets in some of these smaller towns here in Nebraska. I'm not in the "business" anymore, but in my hometown I still get a call once in awhile from an older lady with a CTC-24. I've lucked out in that it's only been bad tubes, but I've told her one of these days.......

Hi Rob,
The 211CDR model # suggests a CTC-10 (1961). The lack of a picture could be a simple video section tube right up to a bad flyback or dead pix. tube. These were the last RCA's to use the 21CYP22 tube.

That's a nice looking set, real wood too.
It's also big enough to put at least two more B&W sets on top of it.

That's interesting Steve. My CTC-10 has a 21FBP22 and it is weak. Must have a LOT of hours on the chassis. Maybe that explains why it has apparently run out of color.

And therein lies the real value of large consoles! ;)

When the 21CYP22 tubes were replaced in the CTC-10, you could opt for the new, brighter, 21FBP22 sulphide tube. This conversion required a slight modification to the CTC-10 chassis.

Ive got a service book and it includes rcas chassis model and name data from all color tvs built from 1955-70. That model is called the "Darcy" and is a ctc11E chassis making it a 1961 set. If I were to bid and win, its the oldest color I would have. I love remote control sets, so Im going to go for it! Im going to hope for the best!

Well, I won the auction at 202.50. This will work out well, as the shipping service that is picking up that magnavox console will be able to pick this up and deliver on his way. Ive tinkered with lots of rcas and I never found totally bad flyback yet. Atleast one that wont let the picture show up. So Im going to hope for the best on that part. You know what I wish the problem of no picture is!, they forgot to turn up the brightness control:D!!, im sure thats not the case It should be a fun one to work on. My oldest set is a 63 zenith 26KC20 so far. Im slowly working my way back to earlier color sets! So expect to see some progress photos soon on ak!

Hey Doug,

Congrats on the auction! You will really enjoy this remote set I'm sure.

I saw this explanation by a novice on ebay once for no picture
and I laughed my ass off. He said the set "needed a new brightness capacitor!" Well my friend, I sure hope that is all this one needs too! ;)

Doug,
I'm glad you bagged that RCA. The older the color set the better.

Good for you Doug! It's great that you have such an interest in the old color sets, and have the space and the "know-how" to keep em going. This one was a great find, and I know you're loving that remote control!!!!

Thanks for the note kirk, will be sure to let you know should I get stumped on something. Already got acouple questions. The model of the set is 211CD446. My 1970 color sets manual has a huge chart of all sets made from 55-70. Shows this as a ctc11E? Is that correct. Seems like it could also be a ctc10? Ive got a ctc11 rca service book, but doesnt show this model. Looks like this model would almost fit better in my ctc10 book being "211...." and all the ctc11 chassis numbers start as 212.... Also, when I pull the chassis, what kind of caps are in there? Wax paper caps? Is the chassis loaded with them if its got those?
Thanks!

Doug,
I mentioned in an earlier post the CTC-10 models have 211CD (or CDR if remote). The CTC-11 models start with 212G.There may have been some crossover if RCA produced a particular model over both years. If your set has an original 21CYP22 pix. tube it is a CTC-10 for sure.

Thanks for the info steve. As long as its a ctc10, its older which is better! Makes this set a 1960 then!

I should have this tv by mid september, thats when the shipper will be able to bring it up here. Hes a friend of the guy that bought the magnavox, so hes giving me a nice deal. I will be in suspense for the next month!
