Why'd they do that, I wonder? Reduced color crawlies on the ref's shirt. But the luma notched at 3.58 to avoid hanging dots. Not great but it was a step above traditional notch bandpass and band stop of older color TVS, back in 1979 or so. ------- I think the "XL" in RCAs color TV line was more to suggest a general feeling of "excellent" rather than "extended life". andy 10-24-2005, 05:50 PM Some Sony TVs have a switchable notch filter. It does remove the dots, but also takes out a lot of picture detail.
