Has anyone here ever considered buying one of these new color Predictas? Yeah... they're somewhat pricey... but no more than what some of us would pay for a few non-working color tube sets. Seems I remember the price ranges being between 1800 to 2300 bucks... depending on model. So far, these have been out for a few years, and evidently are still in business. I saw one of these sets in a shop in Houston a few years ago... was pretty neat. Good thing I didn't have a credit card with me!

I realize these are new modern units, but ya have to admit... they look pretty damn good!

What's yall's opinion on these sets?

Charlie, I think they look fantastic, but last I heard they were using RCA XL-100 innards? Ugh!

Couldn't they use something more high end in something that expensive? Sony XBR maybe?

Someone just wrote to me this morning asking about getting a vintage set or reproduction. They want modern innards so I will refer them to that Site.

out of curiousity, i emailed Telstar asking about the chassis and crt's used in their sets. i got a response today, and it sure wasn't very impressive... especially considering the price tags on these sets. the response from Telstar is as follows...

Very sorry for delayed response. Month-ends are hectic for us.

In response to your question, electronic chassis change roughly every 9
to 12 months. They are also not always made by the manufacturer listed in
the front, such as RCA, Philips, etc. Currently, we are using two chassis,
one for our 18" models and another for our 24" models, that are made by a
company called Daewoo. This family of chassis have been used in some RCAs,
and I think we have seen it used in some Samsungs.

As I mentioned, updating and adapting the electronics is a constantly
evolving effort. We choose a chassis based on a combination of several
factors. First and foremost, it must have excellent quality, as well as
being able to adapt to our Predicta. We also take in other lesser factors,
such as ease of use, reparability and after-market support. The current
chassis we are using on the 24" models have been in place since August of
'02. To date, we have had zero failures and no warranties.

In response to the picture tube, we keep the specifics of this under
proprietary. What you should be assured of is these tubes have a long and
durable track record. They are not something exclusively available through
us, which means they can be repaired or replaced. The six years we have
produced the product, we have had but one tube failure, and as you might
guess, it was the result of an unpleasant tumble off the back of a truck.

if i wanted a Daewoo, i'd go buy one at walmart for $120.00!

I first saw their Meteor model about 2 years or so ago on ebay when they were taking orders for a manufacturing run of these. I thought they would be cool to give to friends if you were to win the big lottery.

I wouldn't want one at home to watch TV on though, screen is way too small, so it turns out a non-working, completely authentic Pedestal Predicta would fit my Predicta needs just fine. :)
