Did they still have round CRT color sets in 67?

That's the claim for this Curtis Mathis

I used to watch the 6 Million Dollar man and Charlies Angels on a neighbors set similar to this, I think it was in a bigger cabinet though.

Eric,

I thought most manufacturers made the switch to rectangular in '66. Maybe this is an early '66 model that wasn't actually sold until '67. Looks like it has an RCA TV chassis.

I have a Curtiss Mathis round color set in my in-basket. It is complete except for the knobs. It is definitely RCA chassis. I'm most interested in it for parts as it has a good CRT. Not big on the cabinet style. It is my only C.M. set in the collection. I'm not sure what year model it is of hand.

I also thought '66 was the last year for the venerable round CRT, ala my CTC-20 RCA New Vista.

Here's a photo of my C.M.

Rob,

Is that C-M chassis identical to your CTC-20?

wvsaz,

No I don't think so. I think it more closely resembles the CTC-16 chassis, but I'd have to go look at them to see, and that is difficult just now where they are stored behind stu-uff.

Here is the inside of my CTC-20. I have filed photos. Definitely not a match.

This set is the one in which I delaminated a badly cataracted CRT and restored it. It is the set that made my avatar!

Here's the inside of my CTC-16A. The 16-E's I have are the same. None of these match the Curtis-Mathes.

I just looked in one book I have. Apparanetly C.M. used the same chassis that were also used by Emerson, Magnavox, Olympic and Philco. None match RCA. These must have been a special chassis made for these other manufacturers by RCA.

Sure does look like the CTC-16.

Close but still no. The controls on the back apron especially. Look at my CTC-16A post again. More added info.

A few weeks ago, I was looking through some loose Sam's I have. I came across one for a CM color set with a round CRT and noticed the year was 1967. I don't remember the month or the folder number. I have wondered how much of a time span went by between when a new set came out and then the Sam's for it. I am in New Jersey right now, so can't go back and look.

I probably have the Curtis Mathes knobs if you have a photograph or Sams number. I cleaned out a TV shop in Athens, Texas, near a now defunct Cutis Mathis factory. I have an never used Curtis Mathis chassis in my garage.

The Sams are ususally released about a year after the set is.
