Happened to see this on Craigslist , Buffalo area. Interesting Stromberg Carlson "Chinese" console. Shame about the top corner area being broken. Price is right though. AM & FM

Interesting design and a very early model. Too bad it's so big, but yes, you can't beat the price. I hope someone can save it.

Here is a link to an older thread on the antique radio forum. This would appear to be the same model.

Most TV collectors would not take up all that space with a single set unless it was very rare, but it would make a nice conversation piece in someone's home. It definitely has an early look to it. It's priced right, but unfortunately it's going to come down to being glad to just have someone haul it off for free and saving it. I hope that happens.

Tim, its a few blocks away from you and I have the space for such a grand unit, like I would for a DuMont console if I had a complete one.

That is a very rare set. I've seen several 40's small screen Chinese cabinet SC sets (and some 50's large screen sets), but never one with the TV channels on the slide rule dial with the radio. There may not be another such set around.

If that was within an afternoons drive of me I'd have grabbed it already.

It would also be worth asking the seller if the original piece of broken top wood has been kept with the unit. It might be able to be repaired, with little evidence of the original break. Hopefully it was not thrown out. That to me,.. would be a huge deciding factor, given the size of the unit.

Well, a lot of sets are rare, but that does always equate to high desirability. This is a nice early set, but most collectors would pass even at $20 just because it so big and heavy. The important thing is I hope someone does save it.
